Gladioli are a bright decoration of a flowerbed or garden. But you need to know that the bulbs of the plant require attention and improper storage can affect flowering.
To prevent the seed material from rotting or becoming moldy, you need to choose one of the convenient storage methods, which will be the best.
Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", a scientist, agronomist and landscape designer, spoke about popular methods of storing gladioli.
1. Summer residents who leave their property until spring will like the method of storing bulbs in the refrigerator.
The good thing is that the refrigerator maintains a constant temperature and humidity.
It is best to place the bulbs in an egg carton, which is placed on a shelf as far away from the freezer as possible.
2. If you have a cool storage room, it would be better to put the bulbs in a net made of natural material and hang it on the wall or ceiling, but away from heating devices.
3. As a last resort, you can place the bulbs in a paper bag and leave it on the windowsill. You will have to make sure that the material does not get wet due to condensation or overcool on a frosty night.
4. If you have a cellar or basement, leave the tubers there, but keep them away from vegetables and fruits.
1. If you have time and the bulbs have grown large, then melt the paraffin in a water bath and cover the seed material with it.
Excellent protection against moisture and rot. But the bulbs will still need to be stored in a dry and warm place.
2. Experienced gardeners consider the best way to store the bulbs of the plant in the ground. The seed material is placed in a box, sprinkled with sawdust, then covered with film and buried.
This method is good until the air temperature rises above +3 +8 degrees Celsius.
But in any of the described cases, the gardener will have to control the humidity and temperature.
