Usually, gardeners limit themselves to planting winter garlic, although there are more crops that can withstand frost than many might imagine.
Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", a scientist, agronomist, landscape designer, told what greens can be sown for the winter.
Firstly, sowing greens in winter allows you to save time in the spring.
Secondly, the harvest can be collected 10-15 days earlier than usual.
Start sowing at the end of October or beginning of November. It is better to focus on temperature indicators.
The air temperature should be around 0 degrees Celsius, and the soil temperature 2-4 degrees Celsius.
The beds need to be prepared in advance. They are cleared of weeds, the soil is loosened, peat and compost are added (1:1).
Don't forget that when sowing in winter, there should be 30% more seeds!
You can sow parsley and dill, but you need to remember that dill seeds germinate at 3 degrees Celsius.
If you sow lettuce in the fall, the harvest can be collected as early as the beginning of May.
After the onset of stable frosts, you can sow spinach.
Cilantro is not afraid of cold temperatures down to -10. It is also not afraid of recurrent spring frosts.
At the same time, you can sow watercress.
After sowing, the beds are not watered. It is enough to cover them with mulch or agrofibre, which should be removed in the spring.
