The main mistake
Beginning gardeners mistakenly believe that in autumn and winter pests and pathogens of common diseases will die from the cold.
But this is not so. There is a fight against cutworms and mites, aphids, fireworms and weevils, leaf-eating insects and other pests.
You also need to remember about scab, moniliosis, anthracnose, spotting and powdery mildew, rot and other insidious diseases.
To deal with this, you need to carry out the treatment according to all the rules.
Point one: sanitary pruning
They get rid of not only damaged and broken branches, but also dried shoots.
If necessary, the cut areas are disinfected and then treated with garden pitch.
Trees are treated with pest and disease control agents.
Point two: treatment
After pruning, an inspection is carried out. Peeling bark, under which pests may be hiding, should be a warning sign.
If there is a hollow, seal it. Such wounds are sealed with clay or a mixture of clay and mullein (1:1).
If necessary, crushed stone or expanded clay is placed into a large hollow, and then a cement solution is poured in.
Third point: cleaning
It is necessary to get rid of fruits and leaves on the tree and on the ground. Often in this environment pests and fungal spores overwinter.
Point four: whitewashing
In autumn it is not recommended to whitewash tree trunks with lime, as it is easily washed away by rain. It is better to use ready-made compositions for whitewashing trees.
