Not everyone plants onions in the winter, preferring the beginning of the season.
However, many experienced gardeners prefer sowing in the autumn period.
As it turns out, this approach has a lot of advantages.
It is believed that late planting will protect the crop from its main enemy - the onion fly. Also, onions in general become less interesting for any other pests.
"Unload" yourself for spring
At the beginning of the season, you will have a lot of troubles and important things to do. If you plant onions in the fall, then in the spring you can spend time usefully.
Many experienced gardeners have noticed that planting onions in the winter strengthens the immunity of the crop. Thanks to this, it is not so susceptible to many common diseases, including powdery mildew with gray mold.
It is worth noting that fresh onions will appear on your table much earlier. But this is not the main advantage. The harvest of winter onions will take place approximately in the middle of summer.
This means that you will have time to harvest a second crop of any other crop that will have enough time to develop.
