What to do with raspberries in autumn: an important rule for final watering

After harvesting raspberries, some summer residents stop watering their raspberry bushes.

It would seem that this is the right decision: the plant has temporarily stopped producing fruit, so why replenish the moisture deficit?

In fact, the popular garden crop needs water in the autumn period as well.

Moreover, it is precisely during the “golden” time of the year that it is advisable to carry out the final watering, which should be quite abundant.

The need for an important autumn procedure was recalled by the expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", scientist-agronomist and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh.

How to water raspberries in autumn

After the raspberry fruiting period is over, there is no clear watering schedule.

It is necessary to pay attention not so much to the calendar, but to the condition of the soil cover.

Raspberry bushes need to be watered when the soil is dry. In this case, it is enough to pour two watering cans of water under each plant.

After completing the procedure, it is necessary to carry out shallow loosening of the soil.

If the autumn is rainy, then you most likely won’t have to water the raspberries often.

How to properly perform final watering

Before the onset of the cold period, it is necessary to carry out the so-called “moisture-charging irrigation”.

It is necessary to ensure that the raspberry bushes receive a lot of water for a peaceful “wintering”.

The plant will not face a moisture deficit during the cold season if you water the soil in October so that there are 30 liters of liquid per square meter of the plot.

Then it is advisable to cover the moistened soil with some mulching material.

An important point: if autumn is very rainy, then there is no particular need for moisture-charging irrigation.
