A good time to plant berry crops is in the fall. During this time, the plants have time to take root and in the spring they spend their energy only on development and the future harvest.

And in order for the harvest to be good, you need to remember not only about fertilizers and watering, but also about the correct neighborhood of cultivated plants.

Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", an agronomist and landscape designer, told which berry bushes should not be planted next to each other.

Neighborhood in the Garden

It is not recommended to plant plants from the same family together. Related crops are susceptible to the same diseases and pest attacks.

It is also impossible to plant together shrubs that suppress the development of weak crops, shade, consume more moisture and nutrients, which generally affects the yield.

Gooseberries and currants

Both shrubs grow in the same conditions and require the same care, but they should not be planted together.

The reason for this is pests (fire moth and bud mite), which can affect both plants.

Strawberries, raspberries and wild strawberries

Wild and garden berries have the same pests and diseases. They are equally demanding of nutrients and equally quickly deplete the soil.

Strawberries and raspberries should not be planted next to each other because of the weevil. It is also worth considering the requirements for nutrients and moisture in the soil.

Blueberry

It is difficult to find neighbors for this berry only because it grows in an acidic environment - pH 4-5.5.

That's why garden blueberries are often grown separately.
