Roses in a summer cottage are no longer a surprise to anyone – these flowers are often chosen to decorate their property throughout the summer cottage season.
But if you want to enjoy the fragrant bloom of roses next year, you will have to take care of protecting them from the coming frosts.
You should start covering your rose bushes at the end of October or the beginning of November.
To do this, the gardener first needs to get rid of all shoots affected by diseases. Long branches should be cut off, after which it is necessary to carry out treatment aimed at defeating fungal diseases.
The next step is hilling, during which you should add a layer of soil up to 15 cm to the roses.
Use plastic bottles intended for coolers as cover.
To do this, you need to cut off the bottom of the container and place it on the plant.
Do not rush to close the neck - the hole is necessary to provide ventilation for the roses. It is worth closing the necks of the bottles with the first snowfall, using the snow for this purpose.
