Experienced gardeners advise not to rush into harvesting carrots.
You can start harvesting after dry and clear weather at the end of September – when the temperature “overboard” drops to +4.. +6 degrees.
But you shouldn’t delay – late varieties should be harvested before regular frosts begin – no later than the end of September, otherwise sub-zero temperatures and prolonged rains will deprive you of a significant part of the harvest.
After you dig up the root vegetables, cut off the tops, stepping back 1 cm from the base and be sure to dry them thoroughly.
After this stage, sorting follows - only those fruits that are "bubbling with health" and have no damage are allowed to be sent for storage. Send the rest for processing.
The best place to store carrots is a basement with good ventilation and a temperature of around 0.. +2 degrees.
Place the carrots in boxes filled with slightly damp sand (you can use high-moor peat) or in bags - no need to tie them.
Some people prefer to dip the root vegetables in a mixture of water and clay, then dry them in the sun and place them in boxes.
