19.06.2024 22:23

Even though this year's currant harvest is still just ripening on the branches, we need to slowly prepare to think about next year's harvest.

It will never be superfluous to remember how to care for plants after fruiting.

An expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", agronomist and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh reminded how to care for currants after harvesting.

After a short break, the currant will begin to form fruit buds for the next year. This time is at the end of July and the beginning of August.

It is not possible to leave berry bushes without watering and feeding during this time.

Watering

It is necessary to water the currants after picking the berries. In a dry summer, 3-4 buckets of water are poured under each bush.

Intervals between waterings can range from 2 to 3 weeks depending on the weather.

Trimming

It is necessary to remove shoots 4 years and older. Along with them, branches growing inside the bush, crossing, lying on the ground, as well as diseased and damaged ones are cut out.

At the same time, leaves affected by pests or diseases are plucked off.

Processing

After this, they begin to treat the bushes against pests and diseases.

At this time, you can safely use biological preparations - Fitoverm, Actofit or Actocide, Lepidocide, Bitoxibacillin or others.

Top dressing

In summer, bushes older than 3 years are fertilized with a phosphorus-potassium supplement (2 tbsp. superphosphate and 1 tbsp. potassium sulfate per bucket of water).

Add under 1 currant bush after preliminary watering.

An integrated approach will help the plant regain its strength after fruiting and produce a rich harvest in the new season.

Earlier we talked about why pests avoid dandelions .
