One of the fierce weeds that summer residents have to deal with is horsetail. The plant resembles a miniature and neat fir tree.
It is used in folk medicine, but no gardener is happy with the appearance of this herb in the garden.
Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", an agronomist and landscape designer, told us why horsetail is dangerous and how to get rid of it.
The weed spreads quite quickly and can soon become a real problem.
In addition to the fact that the plant occupies new territories, it actively consumes nutrients from the soil, suppresses neighboring plants, and reduces crop yields.
1. Horsetail likes acidic soil, and therefore you will have to start by deoxidizing the soil, but this is not enough, since the weed feels good in neutral soil.
2. You can add dolomite flour, ash, add lime in the fall during digging, sow phacelia, mustard, rye or oats, rapeseed.
If you sow radish, horsetail or arugula, the horsetail will not grow as actively.
3. Another method is physical removal by digging and plowing.
