Do you prefer to buy whole walnuts rather than peeled ones? Then remember what you usually do with the shell.

If you throw it in the trash, you are making a grave mistake. Especially if you are the owner of a country house.

The hard shell of walnuts can be used in the garden.

The shell can easily act as a mulching material and even fertilizer.

An expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", agronomist and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh shared interesting recommendations for summer residents.

Walnut shells as fertilizer

The hard shells of walnuts should be buried under fruit trees and bushes.

The result will be a “long-lasting” fertilizer, thanks to which plants will receive important compounds and microelements for them for at least several years in a row.

But you shouldn’t feed vegetables with shells: such crops simply won’t have time to receive all the necessary components from the unusual fertilizer.

Walnut shells as mulch

The shells can be sprinkled on the soil. As a result, weeds will not appear on the site.

And thanks to this mulch, the soil will remain moist for quite a long time.

Earlier, summer residents were told how to feed tomato, pepper and eggplant seedlings .
