How to get rid of the "American" in the garden: we warn you - herbicides will not help

Galinsoga is a weed known to many summer residents, whose homeland is America, which is why in our area the plant is nicknamed “American”.

As noted by the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, scientist-agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , to combat this grass, landowners use a variety of methods, but despite this, it continues to spread.

It may seem surprising, but even herbicides are powerless against this plant, since it quickly develops resistance to chemicals.

Constantly changing herbicides not only does not destroy the “American”, but also negatively affects the condition of the soil.

What to do? We suggest remembering that galinsoga prefers loose, unoccupied soil, so after the main harvest, you should not leave the beds empty.

To prevent weed growth, the beds should be sown with green manure or covered with dark film.

Since only those seeds that lie in the soil at a shallow depth (about 4 cm) can germinate, deep digging of the soil is not required.

The weed is very thermophilic and sprouts late, so the beds should be sown earlier. Then it will not pose a big threat to garden crops, if, of course, you do not forget to weed it.

"American" loves sunny places and does not tolerate thickening, so it will not grow under already sprouted and strong crops. Young shoots formed from sprouted seeds can be effectively removed with a flat cutter or garden "swift".

The main problem for gardeners is weed seeds, so it is in your best interest not to let them ripen. Weeds should be removed as soon as they appear and immediately removed from the beds, without waiting for the seeds to ripen.

Earlier, the expert explained which seedlings should not be placed on the windowsill.
