Many gardeners have heard about the benefits of soaking seeds, but far fewer gardeners know that this procedure is not suitable for all seeds.
An expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist, and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh listed seeds that should not be immersed in water or any solutions before planting.
Carrot seeds contain inhibitors, and if they are soaked, the chances of germination will be reduced. Therefore, premature soaking can lead to seed rotting and, accordingly, a decrease in yield.
The reason is the same – inhibitors. In addition, parsley seeds are so small that they can easily “drown” when in water.
It is better not to soak flower seeds, as this can destroy the protective shell and reduce the likelihood of germination.
Onion seeds contain natural antibiotics that protect them from harmful microorganisms. Soaking can destroy this protection and thus harm the seeds.
Let's make a reservation: if we are talking about onion sets, soaking them for a couple of hours can be beneficial.
Earlier we talked about how to feed garden blueberries in the spring.
