As probably every summer resident knows, seedlings need additional lighting.
As the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, scientist-agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh explained, additional lighting is especially important at the initial stage so that the plants do not stretch out and remain strong.
It seems that it is very simple - just install the lamp and turn it on. However, even in such a matter there are nuances, non-observance of which can lead to undesirable consequences. What are the basic principles of additional lighting?
The lamps should be installed immediately after the first shoots appear.
Place the lamps at an optimal distance from the plants, which depends on the type of lamp used - for example, for ordinary household lamps it is about 10 cm.
Do not leave the lamp burning all day long, instead, ensure that supplementary lighting lasts a certain number of hours. Try to use additional lighting to bring the daylight hours closer to the optimal values for a particular crop.
When choosing lamps for additional lighting, preference should be given to special phytolamps that emit a certain range of light waves and heat up less, which provides the most suitable spectrum of light for the growth and development of seedlings.
Provide uniform illumination of all plants. If a small lamp is used, the seedlings on the periphery may stretch out and lean towards the light source. In this case, several lamps should be installed or the size of the lighting fixture should be increased.
