Black and red currants are among the most popular berry crops.

Many summer residents are engaged in growing them.

Despite this, mistakes are made very often. Especially in the spring.

An expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", agronomist and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh reminded what needs to be done at the beginning of the summer cottage season in order not to lose the currant harvest in the future.

Water generously

In the spring, currant bushes are very “afraid” of moisture deficiency.

Watering currants in March, April and May should be abundant, especially if rain is rare.

Sprinkle humus

At the beginning of the summer cottage season, the owner of a country plot should loosen the soil around the plant.

The treated area should be covered with humus. Alternatively, you can use compost.

The procedure will provide two important results at once. Firstly, the berry crop will receive enough nitrogen. Secondly, the plant will not be disturbed by weeds.

Carry out pruning

It is advisable to do this before the buds open. Otherwise, the crop will show poor growth.

Earlier, the expert shared three secrets of a double strawberry harvest with summer residents.
