How to Save Overgrown Cucumber Seedlings: 3 Must-Do Steps

12.01.2024 02:30

Many summer residents get upset if their seedlings have outgrown their plants.

And there is nothing surprising in such a reaction of the gardener.

The fact is that an overgrown young plant is especially vulnerable to diseases. In addition, such seedlings are difficult to transplant into open ground.

However, it is quite possible to save the plantings even without such a complex and dangerous procedure as picking.

You need to perform three simple steps, which were described by the expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", scientist-agronomist and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh .

Reduce the temperature

The goal of the gardener is to slow down the growth of seedlings. One way to achieve the desired result is to reduce the temperature in the room where the young plant is located.

The main thing is not to overdo it. Don't stress the seedlings by making the temperature too low.

It is enough to make the temperature slightly less than +20 degrees. The ideal option is plus 18 degrees.

Make the light brighter

The decrease in air temperature must be compensated for. This must be done by increasing the brightness of the lighting.

Thanks to the light, the young plant will not wither. And at the same time, it will be possible to avoid the seedlings from overgrowing.

Reduce watering

It is possible that the reason the seedlings overgrew was due to overwatering.

If so, then do the procedure a little less often. But not too rarely: as soon as the soil becomes dry, it will need to be made moist.

Earlier, summer residents were told about the benefits of a mixture of kefir and cola for tomato seedlings.
