Orchid is a rather capricious plant that requires special care.

As the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, scientist-agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh said, one of the important aspects of care is proper pruning.

Let us recall that the main purpose of pruning is to remove the faded shoot so that the plant does not waste energy on maintaining its life. Pruning also stimulates the appearance of new buds and plant growth.

When carrying out this “procedure”, it is worth following a number of rules so as not to harm the orchid.

Firstly, before pruning, you should definitely make sure that the flower stalk is no longer blooming and that there are no dormant buds on it.

A sure sign that it is time to start pruning is a dried out tip of the flower stalk. This means that it needs to be removed immediately.

Secondly, emergency measures should be taken when the old arrow begins to bloom faster in order to miss another one, which is in the process of appearing between the leaves.

The old flower stalk should be cut off so that the new one gets more strength.

And thirdly, according to the rules of pruning orchids, the cut of the flower stalk should be even, at a right angle.

If the flower stalk has completely faded and has no dormant buds, it should be cut as close to the base of the plant as possible, after which the cut should be treated with wood or activated carbon.
