Lemons and tangerines standing in flowerpots on the windowsill have long ceased to be something surprising, because citrus plants have been especially loved by flower growers for many years.

The reason for the tender feelings experienced towards them is that these plants are capable of decorating rooms with their presence, and also giving tasty and healthy fruits, says Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication BelNovosti, an agronomist and landscape designer.

At the same time, in order for citrus fruits to please us with their appearance and harvest, it is necessary to provide them with proper care, in particular, to organize watering correctly.

Today we will share with you the rules for watering such plants, knowledge of which will help you maintain the health of your citrus plants and get a bountiful harvest.

First, let us recall that the watering regimen for plants differs depending on the season. For example, in autumn and winter, plants practically stop growing. This means that water remains in the pot, which leads to root rot. As a result, the nutrition and respiration of the leaves are disrupted, they fall off, and the flower dies.

So, to check if a plant needs water, use a proven plant-growing trick.

Knock on the pot with a wooden object and listen: if there is a dry lump inside, you will hear ringing clicks. If there is moisture in the flowerpot, the blows will be dull.

Finally, let us remind you that the water for watering citrus plants should not contain salts. This means that the best option for moistening the soil in pots will be melted or rain water.
