If you are a true fan of pistachios, try growing these delicious nuts right in your apartment.
According to the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, scientist-agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , if you have the necessary knowledge on germination and planting of the plant, growing a pistachio tree will not cause you any difficulties.
Remember: to bear fruit, you need to choose the right plant variety. The best choice is probably the frost-resistant (Kyrgyz) pistachio.
Therefore, stock up on raw pistachios, collected from exactly this tree, and pour a warm weak solution of potassium permanganate over them for 24 hours. Do not forget that the liquid should be changed to a new one every 3 hours.
Place the nuts on towels and carefully remove the shells and another husk from the kernels.
Now transfer our "seed material" to a plate covered with a paper towel and leave it on the windowsill for 5-7 days - until the shoots appear. During this time, you need to make sure that the towel is moderately damp.
For further cultivation, you will need to prepare the soil by combining a small amount of sand with peat and black soil.
Fill tall pots with the resulting soil mixture (according to the number of sprouted nuts) and lightly compact the soil. Make a small depression in the center - such that the pistachio root can fit in it.
The root should be placed at the bottom of the hole, without burying the sprout in the soil and leaving the seed on the surface.
When watering, do not allow the plantings to become over-watered, otherwise rotting and souring cannot be avoided.
After about 5 years you will be able to harvest your first crop.
Earlier, BelNovosti reported what will happen if you eat pistachios every day.
