Tree grafting is a relatively complex process that requires the appropriate skills and knowledge.

After grafting, it is important to perform gartering, which plays a strengthening role for the plant.

You can use different types of materials for gartering - in most cases it is enough to use improvised means.

Let us turn to the recommendations of the expert of the online publication Belnovosti and agronomist Anastasia Kovrizhnykh.

What can be used to tie the scions?

Here are some options.

  1. Insulating tape. It is enough to take a narrow tape 11 mm wide. The material is well attached, lies tightly and does not slip. It is better to wind it with the sticky layer outside.
  2. FUM tape. Thinner than electrical tape, it stretches well and does not slide on the bark. But it grows into the bark and is difficult to remove.
  3. Twine made of artificial fibers. Convenient to use on thin rootstock and scion, but the material is not elastic.
  4. Polyethylene film. It stretches well, but is not particularly durable.
  5. Rubber gloves. Latex gloves can be cut into strips.
