Wounds can occur on a tree for a variety of reasons.
It would be a mistake to ignore them, says Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , an expert of the online publication BelNovosti, an agronomist and landscape designer, because such damage at a minimum leads to a decrease in yield, and at a maximum – to the death of the entire tree.
Don't be afraid: nothing supernatural will be required of you.
First, let's remember the timing of treatment: despite the fact that a tree can get "wounded" at any time of the year, it is still worth healing it in May-June.
Until the right time comes, it is recommended to cover the damage with garden pitch. This will help you keep the tissue alive and protect it from infection.
Just before you begin treatment, carefully clean the wound down to the light wood using a chisel. All damaged tissue must be removed.
After this, carry out the treatment using a 5% solution of copper sulfate. If desired, it can be replaced with a 10% solution of iron sulfate or an iodine solution.
All that remains is to wait until the wound dries, and then cover it with garden pitch. It is permissible to use a special balm.
