The main purpose of harvesting is to preserve it throughout the winter for gradual consumption.

It’s quite scary to imagine a situation where you’ve worked hard in the garden all season, but some of the vegetables have rotted in the winter.

Therefore, an experienced gardener makes a lot of efforts to ensure that the storage conditions of the harvest comply with the established rules.

Expert of the online publication Belnovosti and agronomist Anastasia Kovrizhnykh will express her opinion on this matter.

These are the vegetables.

  • Cabbage. Rotting is caused by a disease called gray mold. Affected heads of cabbage should be thrown away.
  • Potatoes. The cause is fusarium rot, which appears as spots. Throw away infected tubers.
  • Garlic. Heads affected by fusarium will also have to be thrown away.
  • Onions. Again, this is fusarium. Collar rot and alternaria may also appear.

These and other vegetables need to be sorted regularly and spoiled fruits thrown out.

Earlier we already talked about emergency measures if vegetables in the cellar spoil.
