Folk fertilizers are used by summer residents in winter and summer. They are valued for their harmlessness, relative effectiveness and cheapness.

But if they are used incorrectly, they can easily leave you without a harvest, even the wood ash that many people love.

Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", an agronomist and landscape designer, explained when it is not worth using ash.

Wood ash is used by summer residents, gardeners and amateur flower growers.

It contains potassium, calcium, magnesium and phosphorus. All these substances are useful for plants, and ash also helps deoxidize the soil.

Where ash cannot be used

First, fruit and vegetable products. It's easy to remember:

- radishes are not fertilized with ash because they shoot up and there is no point in waiting for a harvest;

- sorrel will also not grow in beds that are diligently fed with ash;

- even if a watermelon starts to bear fruit, the harvest will rot on the vine.

Ornamental crops

Florists should also remain attentive.

They are not recommended to use this fertilizer for feeding azaleas, hydrangeas, camellias, calendula and lavender.

Ash will not be beneficial for junipers, spruces, thujas, larches and other conifers.
