How to Achieve a Good Cucumber Harvest: Experienced Gardeners Reveal Their Secrets

Perhaps the main factor on which the yield of cucumbers growing on your plot depends is the quality of the soil.

An expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist, and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh shared the requirements that this vegetable crop “puts forward” in relation to the soil in which it is forced to grow.

So, the first thing I would like to say is that cucumbers need loamy, light soil.

To achieve a loose structure, use sand and organic matter, such as peat, leaf litter, hay, straw, sawdust, etc.

In addition, you need to make sure that there is no groundwater nearby, since cucumbers do not like overly moist and cold soil.

As a result of the proximity of groundwater, cucumbers will constantly get sick and you will not get a good harvest from them.

And, perhaps, the last point for today: monitor the acidity of the soil.

The suitable pH for cucumbers is from 6 to 7, that is, the soil should be slightly acidic or neutral.

How do you know if the acidity is "on point"? Look at the weeds growing here. If you see coltsfoot, clover, bindweed or couch grass, then the soil acidity is just right.
