Winter has come. Many summer residents ask themselves: "Do I need to close the greenhouse? Or can I leave it open?"
Gardeners' opinions on this matter are divided.
Some believe that the greenhouse should remain open until spring. Others are sure that such an approach will harm the object.
Who is right? The expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", scientist-agronomist and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh decided to put an end to the long-standing dispute.
There are many arguments in favor of opening the structure at the beginning of the first winter month.
Firstly, the soil in the greenhouse will freeze well, which will kill pests and dangerous microorganisms.
Secondly, the low temperature inside the greenhouse will not allow the snow on the roof to melt and turn into a crust of ice.
But there is also a danger: an open greenhouse can be damaged or even collapse due to a gust of wind. Do not forget about the risk of huge snowdrifts appearing in the greenhouse.
Anastasia Kovrizhnykh does not recommend leaving the greenhouse open if you doubt the stability of the structure.
In addition, the specialist recommends that those who cannot come to their country house in winter at least once a week (to remove accumulated snow) close the premises.
Other summer residents may not close the greenhouse for the winter.
