Watering tree trunk circles is considered an autumn procedure.
However, some summer residents do it at the beginning of winter.
As a result, the trees receive protection from uninvited "guests" of the suburban area. We are talking about rodents and hares.
But how exactly does water protect woody plants? Expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", scientist-agronomist and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh explained the essence of the method.
You need to throw fallen snow to the tree. The white flakes need to be trampled down within the trunk circle.
Next, you need to water the resulting layer with plain water.
Given the low air temperature, the result of this procedure should be the formation of an ice crust. The latter will be a kind of barrier for rodents: pests simply will not be able to approach the fruit tree.
Of course, not all summer residents want to create a slippery surface in the garden.
Therefore, it is worth paying attention to other options for protecting garden plants from hares and rodents.
There is an interesting approach: the trunk can be protected with covering material (spunbond, roofing felt, nylon).
In addition, it makes sense to tie spruce branches to the tree. Or you can use products that have a strong smell that scares away mice and hares.
