Nobody promised that pests would sleep all winter, especially if vegetables are stored nearby, and in large quantities.
We are talking about a cellar, in which in the cold season, in addition to rodents, even slugs can appear. They not only spoil supplies, but also carry infections, infecting everything they have not eaten.
Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", an agronomist and landscape designer, told how to deal with slugs in the cellar.
The main difficulty in such a situation is provisions. It is not advisable to use chemicals in the room where vegetables are stored.
To avoid having to harvest vegetables and then re-stock supplies, you need to catch the pests.
You won't have to do anything manually. The only thing you'll need to do is lift the vegetables onto the shelves to keep the floor clean.
Then you need to spread oilcloth or PET film on the floor and leave it like that overnight.
If necessary, you can sprinkle cornstarch under the film - slugs love it, but the bait acts as a trap.
As a result, a warm and humid environment is created on the cellar floor under the oilcloth – comfortable for slugs.
The pests will crawl under the oilcloth overnight, and in the morning you can collect them all and destroy them.
It will be enough to simply leave the gastropods outside, and they will die in the cold.
