A hedge has many advantages – it functions as a fence and can protect the area from the views of strangers.

An experienced gardener knows that special attention must be paid to the planting procedure.

It is also important to understand that in the future you will need to care for the hedge and trim it.

Let's turn to the recommendations of landscape designer and expert of the online publication "Belnovosti" Anastasia Kovrizhnykh.

How to Plant a Hedge Properly

Here are 3 rules.

  1. Before planting, you need to decide how many rows your hedge will have. If it is one row, then it is worth choosing conifers. If it is two or three rows, then you can set them aside for deciduous crops.
  2. Trees for a hedge can be planted in holes or a trench. The second option is used when the distance between plants is no wider than 1 meter. Holes are dug for seedlings located at a distance of 1 meter or more.
  3. For single-row planting, the average trench width is 50 cm, and for low-growing plants – 30 cm.
