In order to harvest a high-quality and abundant beet crop, it is enough to know the basic rules of agricultural technology for this crop, including how to properly thin it out.
Thanks to this procedure, according to the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, scientist-agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , more free space appears in the garden bed, and this, in turn, means that the beets will grow larger.
In addition, after thinning, the most viable and strong group of seedlings remains in your garden, which cannot but affect the yield.
Finally, the beets will receive enough sunlight and nutrients they need to grow and develop.
The first stage should be carried out 5-10 days after the first shoots appear above the surface of the earth.
Water the seedlings, then get rid of the weakest shoots - you can remove from 1 to 5 specimens, leaving the strongest ones. Fill in the depressions that appear in the ground and compact them slightly.
The second stage can be started in 3 weeks – by this time the beet will have already formed 3 leaves. Again, it is worth pulling out the plant that looks weaker than the others.
Please note: this two-step method makes sense to use when dealing with multi-seeded varieties that produce 3 to 7 sprouts.
If you are growing single-sprout beets, then there is no need to reduce them. In two-seeded varieties of this root crop, thinning is carried out only on the 5th-10th day.
