How to Protect Young Trees from Winter Burns and Hares: Here's What to Do in Mid-November

16.11.2023 14:58

There is very little time left before the onset of calendar winter.

But gardeners still have time to protect fruit trees.

The fact is that during frosty periods, woody plants in the country become vulnerable to hares and rodents that can penetrate the country site.

In addition, garden crops can get sunburned in winter and early spring.

To protect trees, many summer residents decide to wrap the trunks with special materials (spunbond, kraft paper, roofing felt or even nylon stockings).

However, the expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", agronomist and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh offers a more interesting option.

How to tie trees in mid-November

A couple of weeks before the first winter month, the trunks should be tied with some natural, not artificial, material.

The best options are the following: raspberry or sunflower stems, coniferous tree branches, reeds.

Due to their naturalness, such protection options will not have any negative impact on fruit trees. But pests will bypass the plants.
