What to do if the soil in the greenhouse turns green: there is a solution

If you have a greenhouse on your property, sooner or later you may notice that the soil in it has acquired a green tint.

As the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, scientist-agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh explained, we should “thank” moss and blue-green algae for this effect.

Their active development can be provoked by too high humidity and the characteristics of the soil itself - if it is clayey and too dense. The lack of drainage only aggravates the situation.

Since green soil can cause soil acidification, appropriate measures must be taken immediately.

1. First, remove a 2-3 cm layer of soil from the surface.

2. Water the beds in the greenhouse with a 5% solution of iron sulfate. For five square meters you will need 10 liters of the preparation.

3. In addition, use a mixture prepared from 150 g of ash and 300 g of dolomite flour (the amount is indicated per one "square"). After spraying, the ash and dolomite are left for a day, and then dug up to the depth of a bayonet shovel.

4. After another 3 days, it’s time for humus, which will require 10 liters per square meter of area.

5. If the soil is heavy, it would not hurt to use coarse river sand (the same amount – 10 liters per square meter).

6. Mulch the planted crops using straw or grass, and don’t forget to water the soil in the greenhouse with Trichoderma – a couple of times per season is enough.
