Whether tomatoes will produce a good harvest depends largely on what crops are growing in the neighboring beds.
Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication Belnovosti, agronomist and landscape designer, tells us what you shouldn’t plant near a bed of tomatoes.
Firstly, you can't plant potatoes and eggplants next to tomatoes. All these crops belong to the nightshade family, they have common diseases.
Secondly, there should be no cucumbers near the tomato bed. Tomatoes get powdery mildew near cucumbers.
Thirdly, you can’t plant anything that provides continuous shade, such as corn, next to tomatoes.
Also, tomatoes should not be planted next to conifers, golden currants and fragrant tobacco.
