If you look into this issue carefully, it turns out that the onion fly itself does not harm the crops in any way, which, unfortunately, cannot be said about its larvae.

As the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh explained, because these small parasites gnaw out the bulb, the plant stops developing, its tops wither and turn yellow, the underground part rots and the onion dies.

For this reason, experienced gardeners advise starting the fight against the pest as early as possible. Ideally, even during planting.

Of course, you can fight onion flies with the help of various chemicals, but there is another method – it will come in handy if the first one does not suit you for some reason.

So, all that is required of you is to immediately after planting the seedlings, dust the bed with tobacco dust, which should first be mixed with naphthalene.

The proportions are as follows: a liter pack of tobacco dust (powder) and 2 teaspoons of naphthalene. If you managed to find the last component only in tablets, crush 3-4 pieces to obtain powder, after which you can mix it with tobacco dust.

For one square meter you will need about 4 tablespoons of the finished mixture.

Please note: the procedure will need to be repeated two weeks after the onion seedlings appear in the garden bed.
