When sending raspberries into winter storage, summer residents try to trim the berry bushes and be sure to apply fertilizer.
All this is important and determines the harvest of the next year, but there are two more important procedures that cannot be ignored.
Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", an agronomist and landscape designer, told how to properly prepare raspberries for winter.
In addition to pruning and fertilizing, it is necessary to carry out treatment against diseases and pests, and at the same time carry out moisture-recharging irrigation.
It is carried out not only in spring. In order to prevent fungal diseases, the bushes are sprayed with a 1% solution of Bordeaux mixture.
Among the pests that may remain on raspberries in winter are spider mites and weevils, raspberry beetles, moths, and gall midges.
The preparations "Intavir", "Fufanon" or "Karbofos" are used against them. The soil is treated together with the bushes.
But you need to take into account the weather conditions. Many drugs become ineffective when the temperature drops below +10 degrees Celsius.
Moisture-charging irrigation is a mandatory procedure for all fruit crops, especially raspberries, which love moisture.
After a dry summer and not particularly rainy autumn, up to 50 liters of water are poured onto each square meter.
Watering is carried out before the onset of frost.
