When the water sprout on an apple tree does not need to be trimmed: an exception to the rule

A water sprout on an apple tree is nothing more than a fattened shoot on which fruit buds do not form.

According to the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, scientist-agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , such a shoot needs to be cut into a ring.

True, there is one single exception.

The shoot in the crown of an apple tree does not need to be cut out when you are transferring it to a fruit-bearing branch.

Let's look at an example.

The skeletal branch broke or was damaged for some reason. Below it, the same spinning top formed.

In such a situation, stick to the following plan of action: the damaged skeletal branch of the tree must be cut down, and a new skeletal branch must be formed from our sprout.

To do this, shorten the shoot, leaving about 5-7 buds on it.

Next year you will be able to notice that young shoots have grown from these buds. You will only have to work on their formation and as a result you will get a new fruit-bearing branch.
