It doesn't matter whether you grow black, red or white currants. The main thing is to provide the bushes with good care, then the harvest will be great.
BelNovosti online publication expert, agronomist and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh told what procedures currants need after all the berries have been collected.
If the plant experiences a lack of water after the harvest, you should not even hope that the currants will grow well next year.
After the berries have been fully harvested, at least two waterings should be carried out: one in August and September, and in very dry weather, and one more before winter.
With the onset of autumn, make sure to apply both organic and mineral fertilizers to the currants.
Take 10 kg of rotted compost or humus, 40 g of potassium chloride, 100 g of superphosphate. After applying the fertilizer, the plantings need to be watered generously.
Another procedure, the right time for which is autumn.
We can say that the currant bush has been formed correctly when it consists of 10-15 shoots of different ages - one-year-old and 5-6-year-old, and the former should be more than the latter by 2-3 shoots.
