Many summer residents want beets to grow at least to a medium size, so that there are no additional difficulties in the cooking process.

However, sometimes the size of the vegetable can be an unpleasant surprise.

First of all, notes agronomist and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", you need to pay attention to the variety of the crop. It is quite possible that you initially grew small beets or this variety is not suitable for your type of soil.

Lack of supplementary feeding

Some people believe that beets can be grown without adding nutrients, since they don’t want to waste fertilizers and their energy on this crop.

However, in order for beets to grow large, nutrients need to be added several times during the season.

Lack of sufficient watering

Beets will not be able to grow if they do not have enough water. The crop has quite high moisture requirements, so it is reasonable to use mulch.

In this case, you will reduce the amount of watering without negative consequences for the beets themselves.

Density

Some gardeners want to grow more beets, so they plant the crop very densely. This cannot have a positive effect on development.

If you want the beets to develop well, leave a gap of at least ten centimeters between the vegetables.
