Why Summer Residents No Longer Collect Colorado Beetles: A Clever Trap

In gardening and horticultural stores you can find a lot of different devices for pest control. In addition to poisons, there are belts, traps and repellents.

Unfortunately, nothing similar has yet been introduced against the Colorado potato beetle, with the exception of pesticides.

Summer residents did not wait for mercy from manufacturers and presented their own version of a trap for the Colorado potato beetle.

By the way, gardeners claim that the trap can reduce the pest population. Similar methods are used to catch mole crickets, slugs and other parasites.

So it was the turn of the Colorado potato beetle.

Compared to chemical pest control agents, this is the most environmentally friendly option, which does not have a negative impact on either the harvest or the fertile soil layer.

How to proceed

You need to take a plastic or glass bottle with a high and narrow neck, grate raw potatoes into it and pour half a glass of water.

Such traps are buried in the ground throughout the potato bed up to the bottle neck.

Gardeners who use these traps claim that the beetles crawl towards the smell from the trap themselves, so there is no need to collect them.

The traps are emptied at intervals of once every 5-7 days, renewing the contents.
