How to Plant Gladioli Correctly: This Mistake May Prevent the Bulb from Sprouting

Gladiolus, which some gardeners call a gladiolus, is a welcome “guest” in perhaps every garden.

An expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh told about the rules of planting gladioli, which will certainly be useful to everyone who would like to enjoy their impressive flowering.

Despite the fact that this process is not complicated, there are several nuances that are definitely worth considering.

First, if it is damp and cold outside, the event should be postponed until better times, since these flowers take root best when the temperature “overboard” reaches 8-10 degrees Celsius.

The soil for gladioli should be prepared in advance, adding organo-mineral fertilizers (for example, "OMU-Universal").

Make sure that the distance between plants in a row is approximately 8-15 cm, and between rows – 20-25 cm (depending on the size of the corms you have).

The planting depth also depends on the size of the corms - for large specimens it is 10-15 cm, for small ones - 7-10 cm from the bottom. If we are talking about babies, then they are planted at a depth of 3-5 cm.

The corm should be placed in a hole and sprinkled with soil, and mulch should be laid on top. Peat or humus can be used for this purpose.

Please note: until the sprouts appear, the corms do not need to be watered.

Another important point is to handle the planting material as carefully as possible, because large bulbs already have large sprouts on top. If they are broken off, the bulb will most likely not sprout.
