Even those who are just starting out in plant growing can cope with growing such a popular perennial as hosta.
An expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh told what place to choose for planting the plant and how to care for it so that it will delight you with its decorative qualities for a long time.
The area where the hosta will feel comfortable is semi-shaded and protected from the wind. Ideal conditions for the hosta occur when the area is flooded with sun in the morning and evening, and is in the shade at midday.
If you are going to grow blue hosta varieties, only shade will do.
Perhaps the most important operation in caring for hosta is watering. Make sure that the soil around the perennial is constantly moist.
In this case, water should be poured in a small stream, trying to get under the hosta root.
The best time to water is in the morning, before the clock strikes 11. If the day is cloudy, watering is allowed during the day.
For feeding, use a mixture consisting of equal amounts of nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus.
