Why experienced gardeners do not mulch their beds with fresh sawdust: vegetables will wither before their eyes

Not all mulch is good for plants.

Summer residents are always looking for new ways to increase their harvest. For example, many of them pay attention to sawdust.

This material has gained fame due to its availability and ease of use. Sawdust serves as an excellent raw material for composting and mulching beds.

But fresh material should be used with caution. Soil bacteria that process such sawdust take nitrogen from the soil.

While the material is rotting, the plants are deprived of valuable macronutrients, which is why they begin to wither right before our eyes.

Smart gardeners who use fresh sawdust soak the shavings in a solution of nitrogen fertilizer. For example, 1 glass of carbamide (urea) is dissolved in 10 liters of water. This allows you to compensate for the loss of nitrogen.

To avoid all these manipulations, it is better to use rotted material. Such sawdust perfectly performs the function of mulch and does not take away from plants the macroelement responsible for the growth of green mass.
