Pumpkin is a tasty and healthy vegetable. There are many ways to use pumpkin in cooking, for example, to prepare sweet, salty dishes and even drinks and ice cream.
Therefore, many summer residents struggle to get a decent harvest of this crop. And advice from ADVICE.NEWS will help them with this.
Pumpkin is a heat-loving plant, the best time to start planting it is mid-June. The soil should be well warmed up, and frosts should disappear forever, otherwise the harvest will be poor.
Since the pumpkin vegetation period is 4-5 months, it is advisable to grow it using seedlings. Pumpkin seedlings can be prepared at home on a windowsill or in greenhouses.
The pumpkin root system is very powerful, so make sure that the soil around it is always well moistened. Water the pumpkin at least twice a week and very generously (3 watering cans for each plant).
Limit the growth of side shoots. If desired, you can leave only a couple of the strongest vines, in addition to the main one, and remove the rest.
Such measures will stimulate the plant to develop fruits.
Don't forget about fertilizers containing potassium.
Maintain the required soil moisture balance when watering the crop.
Do not sow into the ground, but only with seedlings, starting literally in April, in accordance with climatic conditions.
Do not allow more than three ovaries to appear on the plant.
