With these rules, even a novice gardener will be able to harvest a solid gooseberry crop.
An expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh told what to pay attention to when growing this plant.
1. Gooseberries need regular feeding, especially in spring and autumn. Use organic fertilizers such as compost or humus to provide the plants with the necessary nutrients.
2. Gooseberries like moist soil, so you need to water them regularly. However, do not overdo it with watering, as excess water can lead to root rot.
3. Pruning gooseberries helps stimulate new growth and increases the number of flowers and fruits. Remove old and damaged branches, as well as those growing in the wrong direction.
4. Gooseberries can be susceptible to various diseases and pests, such as powdery mildew, rust and aphids. Protect your garden from them by using appropriate products and methods of protection.
5. Choose a sunny spot with well-drained soil to plant your gooseberries. This will help ensure that the plant gets enough light and moisture.
