The most important crop in the garden is not the watermelon. Summer residents think soberly and know that in winter they can do without this berry, but without other vegetables it will be bad.
However, watermelons are being grown more and more actively, and not only for sporting purposes.
An expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh shared several tips that will help you decide on this issue.
So, watermelons can be grown in open ground, in greenhouses or in containers.
Watermelons should be planted in sunny areas, protected from the wind. The soil should be fertile and well-drained.
The planting depth depends on the size of the seeds: for large watermelons the depth should be about 2-3 cm, and for small ones - about 1-2 cm.
The distance between plants should be at least 1.5 m.
Watermelons grow particularly well here, especially in the northern regions, but you need to provide enough light and heat.
The soil should be well drained and fertile. The distance between plants depends on their size: for large ones about 1 m is needed, and for medium ones - about 0.7 m. The planting depth should be the same as in open ground.
The method is suitable for growing watermelons on a balcony or in a garden.
The containers should be large enough for the plants to grow and develop. The soil should be well-drained and rich in nutrients.
