The yield of garden crops largely depends on irrigation, especially in hot and dry weather.

Proper watering is not just distributing moisture in the soil in the right amount. Even experienced gardeners do not all know what effective watering is. We will tell you using carrots as an example.

Carrots are not so demanding in terms of soil moisture content, but you shouldn’t leave the situation to chance, especially during dry periods.

What does carrot need?

1. Carrots do not need stagnant moisture in the beds, otherwise problems such as poor air exchange and harmful insects cannot be avoided.

2. You can avoid these problems by loosening the beds. This is done 1.5 hours after the soil has been moistened. It only makes sense to loosen the soil that has already dried out.

3. To reduce the frequency of watering or if it is impossible to follow the recommended schedule, you need to cover the bed with mulch.

The best materials for this role are straw or hay, peat, rotted sawdust and agricultural materials.

4. Among other things, it is important to plant carrots in light and loose soil, cleared of stones and old roots.

5. Another important rule is thinning. There should be a distance of 5-7 centimeters between the root crops.

Lastly, to ensure that carrots have enough nutrients, you need to regularly fight weeds, which take away nutrients, moisture, sunlight and serve as a haven for the spread of insect pests.
