Return frosts cause a lot of trouble for gardeners and vegetable growers, because many cultivated plants suffer from the cold.
Strawberries (garden strawberries) are no exception. May frosts can harm the bushes that were supposed to bloom.

Where to start
First, you need to inspect the plantings and assess the extent of damage. It will not be possible to bring back to life leaves that have clearly changed color and turned black.
Therefore, they are removed so that they do not become a breeding ground for diseases. The pruning shears are disinfected in a solution of potassium permanganate, and then the damaged shoots are cut to healthy tissue.
Processing
The rest of the plants are sprayed with a solution of antidepressants: "Zircon", "Epin" or succinic acid.
Agronomists allow exceeding the specified dosage by 10%, but not more. However, it is important that the liquid temperature does not exceed +10 °C.
Shelter
Next, the plantings are mulched. External heat and shelter will help the plants recover more quickly after sudden temperature changes.
If there was mulch on the beds at the time of frost, but the plants were still damaged, then the surface covering of the soil is not removed.
Top dressing
The last and important step is to give the plant the necessary resources for recovery. Strawberries are fed with preparations that contain silicon. There are two reasons why the plant needs this microelement:
- has a restorative effect;
- strengthens the immune system.
100 g of preparations containing silicon are added per 1 sq. m. But these can also be organic compounds. For example, some plants accumulate large reserves of silicon: sedge, nettle, horsetail.
