Many property owners strive to decorate their territory with gladioli, but not everyone knows how to plant these flowers correctly.

There are a few nuances that are worth paying attention to.

Bulb

Agronomists do not recommend taking bulbs that are too large. This indicates that the planting material is too old. A bulb with a large number of sprouts is not suitable.

Preparation

The bulbs are prepared for planting 2-3 weeks in advance. They are inspected for rotting. Damaged areas are cut off and treated with an antiseptic, and then sprinkled with crushed coal.

Selecting a location

Gladioli love the sun and warmth. Therefore, before planting, it is worth making sure that the soil has warmed up thoroughly. In addition, it is important to plant flowers during the period when the risk of frost is minimal.

Also, plants with fairly long stems should be protected from strong winds and drafts.

What to put in the hole

Immediately before planting, agronomists recommend throwing sand or wet wood shavings into the hole.

To ensure comfortable growth of the plants, they are placed at a distance of 30 cm from each other. The depth of the hole does not exceed 3 diameters of the bulb.

Watering

Gladioli do not like dampness and excessive watering. Therefore, gardeners advise to water the flowers abundantly, but not more than 2 times a week. Exceptions are the period of heat, when rains have not irrigated the soil for a long time.
