Grapes are a unique crop that, for some gardeners, bears fruit abundantly and requires almost no care, while for others, they are capricious and produce small, sour berries.
The harvest is spoiled by mistakes that many gardeners make quite often. Often, it is these actions that lead to an unenviable harvest.
1. Rainy summers provoke fungal diseases. Periodically, you need to inspect the plantings to detect, for example, powdery mildew in a timely manner. Often, this and other similar diseases significantly reduce crop yields.
2. Pruning is the most important procedure. In the process, excess vine ovaries are removed. Otherwise, the berries will grow small and tart.
3. When applying fertilizers, you cannot focus only on superphosphate. Grapes also need microelements: zinc, boron, iron, calcium, sulfur. Complex fertilizers are the best option for grapes.
4. It is better to dissolve superphosphate in water, because the granules will take longer to disintegrate, so the effect of the fertilizer will be delayed.
5. Early mulching is also a mistake. The faster the soil warms up, the faster the grapes will throw off the shackles of winter. Because of mulch, the soil warms up more slowly, so the vines grow more slowly.
