The red vegetable grows well next to legumes, which saturate the soil with nitrogen and improve its structure.

Experienced gardeners always plant tomatoes next to parsley, celery, onions, spinach, asparagus, and sorrel.

Herbs (sage, thyme, mint, basil) are also good neighbors for tomatoes.

If nettles have taken root in a garden bed, experienced gardeners are in no hurry to pull them out. It is believed that this "weed" protects tomatoes from soil pests. In addition, there is an opinion that nettles improve the taste of tomatoes.

Carrots, radishes, beets and early strawberries are also good neighbors for tomatoes.

What should not be planted next to tomatoes

Corn and other tall crops can deprive plants of light, so they should not be planted on the south side of the tomato bed.

Eggplants are also considered bad neighbors for tomatoes. The only thing worse than them is potatoes, from which the Colorado potato beetle will almost certainly move to the garden bed.

Fennel is a bad neighbor for many plants. Tomatoes are no exception.
