Caring for an orchid is very different from caring for other houseplants.

The most popular indoor orchid flower is called phalaenopsis. It is native to Southeast Asia.

From Greek, “phalaenopsis” is translated as “moth-like” or “butterfly-like”.

This unique and very beautiful plant has a distinctive character and demands on its owners.

The difference between orchids and other plants is that they need a special order of fertilization. Not all gardeners take this into account, so the plant may not bloom for a long time.

An expert of the online publication " Belnovosti ", agronomist and author of the blog "Conscious Gardening" Anastasia Kovrizhnykh spoke about the features of applying fertilizer to orchids.

At home, phalaenopsis grows in an "airy" substrate made of tree bark. Thus, moisture is not retained inside the filler.

How to Fertilize Orchids Properly

For the flower, select a container that is larger than the pot. Place the orchid in it and then water it with fertilizer that will seep through the substrate. Pour enough to fill the container in which the pot is located.

Phalaenopsis is left in this solution for 30 minutes. During this time, its roots will be saturated with macro- and microelements contained in the fertilizer. Then the pot is removed from the solution, all the liquid will drain, and you can put the next flower.
